It was a Sunday afternoon in October and a wonderful occasion to have awesome food. In the CIS boarding we have this junior master chef committee and we had decided to treat the whole boarding to some scrumptious food that not many people knew about… So we made the famous North Indian dish known as ‘Halwa Puri’. It is a combination of sweet halwa and black Chenna seeds to be eaten together with fried Puris. It is very famous in north India, however very few students of the boarding had even heard of it, let alone tasted it. We had a lot of fun listening to music and chatting with our friends while rolling puris and trying to make sure that they did not turn out to resemble approximate maps of unknown countries… and they actually ended up looking mostly like nice disk shapes. We also learnt from the school chefs how to make the black chenna which is sour and salty. It is then added to the sweet halwa to contrast and balance out the taste of the sweetness. After we had prepared the dish, we invited all of the boarding staff and students to join us, to begin our Boarding Diwali Function with a sweet treat. It is a Hindu belief, that a good occasion should be started with a dish, sweet tasting to the palate. This in turn, will keep the year a sweet and positive one... Indeed, we enjoyed the dish and had a lot of fun with our friends. To top it all, many of the boarders commented that they enjoyed the Halwa Puri. Testimony of this, are the empty vessels that were left behind soon after we started serving the dish. So it looks like the efforts of the Junior Masterchef Committee have been largely appreciated. Ending this article, I would also like to take the opportunity to thank the Ms. Bernadette, the whole CIS boarding team and the cafeteria chefs for making this a great learning opportunity for us and also for having such amazing events. Happy Diwali Naren Dushant, Grade 10 Junior Master Chef Committee

On Saturday 17th October, Ms. Rachel, Ms. Basanti, Ms. Jennifer and Ms. Delphine took a bunch of chocolate enthusiasts from the boarding to ‘Jus’Trufs’ a chocolate factory near Jakkur… Following is what Ms. Rachel wrote about it. We had a fantastic trip to Jus'trufs with the students from the boarding! The tour guides were very happy about their behaviour, interest and participation! They felt that this group really enjoyed themselves and explored their chocolate decorating and tasting skills! They were a little reserved at first, but no sooner had the chocolates appeared than they became truly involved and inspired! As we observed last year, they were very possessive about their creations! They were just as excited as our little ones in Kindergarten! Jennifer, Basanti and I enjoyed ourselves - maybe even more than the kids! We took loads of pictures and had so much fun. See you next year! On the 11 of October we all left to Hunsur for an excursion. This was a two 2 day trip located at the outskirts of banglore. We all took the bus and had a blast talking to each other, it was a 5 hour ride. It took really long to reach the destination but it was worth waiting for.
