The ‘Ice-Breakers’ is the first event in the boarding, every year, which has all the boarders competing in fun games. This year, it took place on Wednesday 23rd August,
During the ice breakers, it was very overwhelming as we were all intrigued by the new students, and how it is going to be as we bond at this fun-filled day. Starting off, we were introduced to all the required activities for the evening. This event took place after school, and compared to last year, it was different as there were more activities. Last year we had balloon bursting, human pyramid and other such activities. This year there were added activities like ‘drop the cheese balls’, ‘chop-stick the beans’, ‘ball and stockings’ and more... The activity that I enjoyed the most was, ‘drop the cheese balls’, because we were all (in our respective groups) involved in this together. We laughed at our bad aim that resulted in our friends getting ‘cheese-over’. The next activity that caused us to laugh and cry at our failed attempts was the picking of the beans with the chopsticks from the bowls. Overall, it was a combined effort of all of us involved. This is a boarding custom. The Ice breaker event is a sort of ‘welcoming’ to the new students and a medium for the boarding students, new and old to mix with each other and socialize. A social life at boarding is fundamental as this is where we all essentially live. Therefore, events such as ‘ice-breaker games’ bring everyone together. So far, every subsequent year, the icebreakers event just seems to keep getting better and hopefully it always does. Mohamed Shayan / Prerna Nanwani – IB2
