3rd February, 2018. Another Saturday the boarding filled with the same old team spirit
and the oneness of being part of the same CIS family, as we all came together to organise the “Chaitanya Day,”. An experience so gratifying. Personally, I was in charge of notifying all the teams about the time to move to the next station. I also had to make sure that the transition from one stand to the next was as smooth as possible and that the teams found their ways to each of them. Personally, I think this was a bit challenging but then how could I not say ‘cheers!’ To all my fellow boarders for being so understanding as some of the teams got delayed. All of the station masters’s enthusiasm was vibrant and it filled all of the little kids of the Chaitanya School with sheer excitement. They were all giggly as they moved from one stand to the next. They danced with jollity alongside Laya,on the vibes of the upbeat songs played by Ubay. The spirits were high as they aimed at the cup pyramids conducted by Bhuvan, Aman and Vinay. Heads up and Kahoot quiz left them awed. Their concentration was just brilliant. Indeed under the felicity radiant by Ryka, Manvika, Momin and Pranav the games were total hit. Their shooting skills were proved to be like a sniper as they aimed at the balloons for ‘blow and burst the balloon,’under our own Vallika, Aman and Varun. Splash! The fun increased as comrade Shareth and Afridi got all drenched by the wet sponge attack by the kids. They were just enthralled by the fun. The musical section was a real in tune as Mr. Sandeep explained as many instruments to the kids. Thanks to Austin who managed the kids so well there! Next came the Pictionary- Vedant, Khush and Habib were just awesome. The kids were head over heels to guess what their teammates were illustrating on the boards. It was all fun! Oh!! How how can we forget the show stopping section, ‘The Ice Bucket Challenge!’ The freezing water made the best of us go numb as the quest to undo the bolts drove them forward. What else can we say to Mehul, Ruzan & Sia’s exuberance was just impressive. Mrs. Radhika was indeed the coolest in this group though and the kids just love her. Our fun was boundless and the stupendous day was just made perfect by the heartwarming smiles of the kids as Mehul, Shareth, Vallika and I handed them the packs of cookies. No words can suffice for the contentment we felt in our hearts. It was just marvellous. -Swati Biswas. (IB-1, Boarding Chronicles Club)

There is always the first time for everything. And for me ‘Master Chef’ was a far fetched idea. As a young child, I used to enjoy watching Master Chef. It used to be fun to see how people would take up unexpected challenges and prove to the judges that they are the best. The determinations and enthusiasm they had in theireyes, was the right opposite for us. As an organizer and a participant, I could see both of the sides of the event. From 20th, we were informed about the competition and we were told to make the recipes. When the group brain stormed their ideas, we came up with unique and challenging recipes. At first, we didn’t realize the threat we had put the participants in. It was all smooth until the day of the event. Once a responsibility is taken, I take it too far. I had mistaken the timings of the event and ended up calling all the participants 30 minutes early. This not only made commotion in the cafeteria but led to stress of starting the event quickly. We ended up delaying the event. But once we started, we had no clue what do to. Even though we had the recipes in front of us, we were still clueless. As they say, ‘Take a walk in my shoes, it’s not as easy as it looks,’ this completely sums up how a chef feels. As the first time in the field of cooking, it was completely memorizing to see so many ingredients and machines to be used to make, just, one dish. My partner was very supportive and understanding. She tired to follow the procedure and ended up making complete sense. For me this activity was like a trial and error game, it made me appreciate the dedication and preciseness of the people around. When the time was up, we were he first group to present outer dish. At that moment of doubt and fear, made me realize the thrill of all those Master Chef participants. We ended up making a satisfactory main course and inedible desert. And through this unexpected journey we managed to get the second price! -Vallika Master chef Competition. So, my name is Shreya's and I’m going to be talking about my experience during the Master chef Competition. At first, I was excited, like really excited. So exited that I started planning how everything will turn out in my head without even thinking what the dish we were supposed to cook was. My cooking partner was also my roommate in the boarding, Ashish. He is pretty lazy and didn’t really care if we do a good job or not. And neither did he bother to help me write this when I asked him.... So, it started out simple, a teacher giving us instructions and the meals we had to prepare.(For non vegetarians, and everyone had vegetarians, it was burgers it was barbecue chicken pizza to make the dessert, which was an apple pie I had no clue how to cook and I still don’t. But that didn’t bother me, as long as we had the recipe. The teacher gave us 45 minutes to cook our dishes. That was a lot of time, one may think but believe me when I say that pies take a long time to bake. Anyway, I start of with a chunk of dough which I used for making the pizza base. I spent around 15 to 20Minutes just making the pizza base! I gave the base a break and went to the chicken. There were small pieces of cut chicken in a bowl that is to be put on the pizza. I put the tiny pieces of chicken in a black and silver tray which I earlier covered with olive oil. If you’re wondering what my cooking partner was doing, he was making weird shapes out of the dough and shouting and showing it around making people stop working and laugh at it.....back to the chicken, I went ahead and gave it to the a chef who put the tray with the chicken in something which I didn’t see. When I came back, I took a bowl of barbecue sauce and spread it on the pizza base. That’s what the recipe said. After that I put cut onions on it and also some cheese whose name I don’t remember. Ashish started arguing with me for putting half the bowl of barbecue sauce. He said “ why are you using half of the bowl? We still have to put it on my pizza and the chicken!” I told him that we had another cup of barbecue sauce. Hearing that he cooled down a bit. He was still making the base of the pizza.......5 minutes later, my pizza was already in the oven along with my partner’s pizza. Before we put it in, we had a little bit of spices in a few bowls. I used them on my pizza first and then gave it to Ashish. He put half of the whole bowl on his pizza!! The spice was red in color. I just behaved as though I didn’t notice that. (that spicy pizza actually tasted pretty good) Once the pizzas were in the oven , I started with the apple pie. I put flour, eggs, sugar powder, brown sugar , etc. the end result of that was something that looked like dough but darker. The teacher who was checking everyone’s dishes came by our table and saw the base. She took a piece of it and tasted it. I told her it wasn’t cooked yet. She told me that it’s still edible. How is raw eggs edible? I tried it too and I was delighted by its taste. So sweet but not too sweet. The teacher told me that I got the perfect taste and everything I put it in was in perfect proportion. I was so happy to hear that. The only thing that worried me was the pizza. My pizza became a little squished before it went in so..... just imagine this- Become something like this- Okay, so after I made the base, Ashish put the apples in it. I took it to the kitchen and asked them if they can bake it. After waiting for a long...time, Actually it was just 10 minutes I guess . When the timer hit zero, the pies were removed. If you ask me, they looked more like a tart rather than a pie. 1 because they were not bulging at the the top like usual pies it is It was more like- Those are crumbs falling off Once everyone’s ✌pies us one by one and tasted our food. At that moment, I was pretty nervous because our pizzas looked eh...pretty bad. My pizza looked as though someone stepped on in and Ashish’s pizza had so much red and brown in it because of the spices that it looked like cow dung. After everyone’s dishes were tasted, I went into my room and relaxed for a bit .✌ we’re ready, the judges called Later, Ashish came in and told me that we had actually WON FIRST PLACE!! If you know Ashish, you will also know that you should never believe him. But I still went out and saw the notice board and hey! We actually won!! We won because all 3 judges gave our so called pie a 5/5!! -Shreyash. Unlike usual Saturdays, this Saturday was meant to be fun filled. Racing, experience, adrenaline and a hobby for some. I’m personally a adrenaline junkie, so no wonder I had to go when Mr. Anthony asked me for the sign ups. Last time, I remember it was my 3rd Go-Karting experience and it was amusing racing Seungjune and Khemphum. This time, there were new participants who definitely got excited by the news the participants spread from the experience of last time. We saw new faces this time who accompanied us to the tracks, they were well excited and ready to win.
The screeching of tires, scary drifts, fast speeds. Everybody’s feet were on the accelerator peddle throughout the race. The race of thrilling for all of us. Later, we relished our days’ hard work in the cafe nearby and we ordered delicious mouth watering food. While we were relishing our food, we saw real cars racing in the track, a Honda City and a Mercedes Benz C-Class. It was thrilling to watch real cars race. It was an exciting day for all of us at boarding and some of us even promised to each other that they would win against them the next time they come here. We at boarding never miss a chance to have fun amidst the stress of studies. Mehul Choudhury-IB1 As a part of the floodlight tournament that was conducted on 2nd December, the boarders participated in a volleyball match. Whereby, the four boarding houses challenged themselves in a friendly competition. There were three or four participants from each teams, and some members of other teams took places if a team lacked a member (after all, we all are one CIS boarding family).
Ms. Coleen’s unprejudiced referring gave a professional format to the match. Ms. Browne kept on reminding us of the scores and maintained the scoring chart. We all started with a toss, the toss-winners were given the freedom to choose to serve first. The competitive glances and the smiling countenance indeed promised a tough match from the teams. The upbeat music boomed, firing the vitality of our extraordinarily competent players. Each pair of teams competed thrice against each other. Each set was restricted to ten points. The two winning teams then competed against each other for the first position and the other two teams for the third positions. Though the match wrapped up with one team winning, but not one person could deny that in the true sense all the participants had had a paramount of fun and that was the main aim of this tournament, therefore each player was a winner. The breathless and famished players then dashed towards the delicious feast of pizzas and momos. Indeed another perfect weekend evening at our very own CIS Boarding family!! Swati Biswas. (IB1) Target Shooting @ Olive Planet.... Boarders 'shooting' towards another fun-filled Sunday.
Once again, the boarding team of Canadian International school imparted another awesome opportunity to the boarders to try out another adventurous activity- TARGET SHOOTING. On 26th November,2017 students who signed up for this episode stood in front of the gate of our school tentatively waiting to board the bus as Mr. Nimesh (Our wonderful Boarding Parent) did a final head count and then the inevitable rush for the best seats on the bus followed. Everyone was bubbling with enthusiasm as the spirit of the 'fighter,' peeked from each one of them. After a 20 minutes ride, finally their wait was over as the school-bus parked in front of the destination- The Olive Planet Shooting Range. The 'camo,' aesthetic of the place successfully reminded of a military base camp. Every inch of the place was meticulously fuelling the thrill of our aspiring 'world-class shooters.' Soon, one of the staff who reminded of an army personnel on duty (owing to his apparels) approached the group, inviting them to him with a flamboyant smile. He led the group to the backyard of the place, which had been quintessentially modelled into a shooting range. Each pair eyes twinkled as the gazes landed on the air guns and the shining small row of the ammunition- air-gun pellets. The excited students could not wait to test their infallible aiming skills. The coordinator gleamed at the infectious enthusiasm radiated by each of our fellow boarders. He did not give a long dragging speech instead he kept the precautionary advice short and to the point- "Fun and not pesky injuries is what we want...Isn't it? so, the aim is to be directed only toward the target sheet, those tiny pellets can 'cause a lot of pain. Have fun!" And then who could have stopped our brave troop? Each student armed with the air-guns and the ammo were all ready to blaze-away the target sheet. They were challenged to hit the bulls-eye at every count of three. And on each count of one...two...and three.... Bang! the ammos went swiftly perforating the target. All the students aimed really phenomenally. They all learned a new skill indeed but most importantly these 'snipers,' had a lot of fun!! The activity was made even better as they were shown around the place, where they got a glimpse of a range of real pistols, rifles, knifes and a range of military badges. It was an inspiring tour filled with gallant real-life stories of our brave Indian Army. After this fun-filled trip, it was time to return to our cozy ‘base-camp’ (~Also known as, our beloved home away from home- The CIS Boarding) but not just yet...the famished lot got a treat of a homely traditional meal from the cafe, but were we satisfied?!...Nope! not until they crashed into the nearest McDonald's and had their fill. Oh well! with that the boarders had successfully turned another weekend wonderfully amazing! ~ Swati Biswas. (IB 1-JK) I started my day with a good breakfast waiting for the chaitanya students to come over, however i was pretty worried about the fact that Saachi’s dad wanted to take us out earlier than the actual time planned. I wasn’t playing a huge role for the day and so i got excused. With a milk glass in my hand i went over to the gate with saachi to welcome the cute ones that were practically my size. It was either i’m actually too small or the kids were big in size 😦
Ubbay and Laya were already there leading the kids to the stairs opposite the odeum according to their team colours and their spirit and enthusiasm made me feel good too. They cheered for their team on the way and i cheered with them. It was good. We started the event with some briefing and then went to our stations. I was in the rest station, where the kids just come to relax, talk, dance and do whatever that makes them feel comfortable. And of course, we needed music for that ! i was in charge of the music but i’m a gujurati so playing tamil songs was a bit of a challenge for me and so the staff took over. However, while i was still playing Lungi dance and a new song that is now my favourite, Vachinde, the kids enjoyed and loved it. The music made my bones move and i started dancing with the kids and that was probably my most favourite!! I went off for sometime and when i got back i see saachi teaching the little ones how to dab and they’re waaayyy too good at it. I didn’t want to leave so soon, the music, the dancing, the kids made me want to stay more and enjoy with them. I did this last year as well, but last year was more of helping to get glasses and helping out in talking and interacting with the kids, this time i was mainly involved in the dancing and music. Overall, i had fun both years in helping since i got to experience two different things, I enjoyed all parts of the event that i was there for and look forward to it next year as well ☺ By : Amy - Grade 9 The ‘Ice-Breakers’ is the first event in the boarding, every year, which has all the boarders competing in fun games. This year, it took place on Wednesday 23rd August,
During the ice breakers, it was very overwhelming as we were all intrigued by the new students, and how it is going to be as we bond at this fun-filled day. Starting off, we were introduced to all the required activities for the evening. This event took place after school, and compared to last year, it was different as there were more activities. Last year we had balloon bursting, human pyramid and other such activities. This year there were added activities like ‘drop the cheese balls’, ‘chop-stick the beans’, ‘ball and stockings’ and more... The activity that I enjoyed the most was, ‘drop the cheese balls’, because we were all (in our respective groups) involved in this together. We laughed at our bad aim that resulted in our friends getting ‘cheese-over’. The next activity that caused us to laugh and cry at our failed attempts was the picking of the beans with the chopsticks from the bowls. Overall, it was a combined effort of all of us involved. This is a boarding custom. The Ice breaker event is a sort of ‘welcoming’ to the new students and a medium for the boarding students, new and old to mix with each other and socialize. A social life at boarding is fundamental as this is where we all essentially live. Therefore, events such as ‘ice-breaker games’ bring everyone together. So far, every subsequent year, the icebreakers event just seems to keep getting better and hopefully it always does. Mohamed Shayan / Prerna Nanwani – IB2 On Friday 12th May the Boarding Planning Club organized a ‘Camp Night’.
The idea was to have fun together in a different setting. It started with a treasure hunt were 5 teams picked out of a hat, ran around the school looking for clues to the next station. This was followed by a bonfire next to the pool. A BBQ Dinner ensued ending with marshmallow on sticks dipped in chocolate sauce. Then, it was a movie in the drama room (Jurrassic Park) and then, finally the all awaited camping on the field. It all started at 6:15 pm and finished at about 2 am. Here are a few accounts from the participants: Camp night in boarding was a very unique experience, camping out on the field with friends and taking part in the different activities was fun and an enjoyable experience. The different events of the evening moved along smoothly, with my favorite event of the night being the movie. The movie choice was a classic, Jurassic Park and watching it with my friends in a chill environment was the highlight of the evening. The bonfire and the actual camping itself were close seconds to the movie, although we could have done with fewer mosquitos for company during the course of the night! - Sareth The Night Camp that boarding held for the first time this year was pretty successful in my point of view, as there were many great activities. The highlights of the day were the bonfire that we had. Afterwards, we had dinner, and I enjoyed it too. We even roasted marshmallows on the bonfire that was lit up, and all that was very overwhelming in a good way. We watched the movie, 'Jurassic Park' after the whole dinner and bonfire, which was an overall great experience because of the set up and the location it was held in, that is Odeum 2. There was so much of excitement in the room, and the movie quality was amazing, so was the sound. What did not go well however, was the treasure hunt that was less of a hunt by the whole group, but more of chasing after the team leader who was far ahead of the rest of us. I fell down twice because of the rain, and though this happened, the whole night camp idea has been a success, I feel. Prerna Nanwani Camp night was a new experience that was extremely interesting and fun. My favourite part was the movie night part. During that time we all sat in the drama room on mattresses and we got our pillows and blankets and watched the Jurassic park movie. It was nice to just sit with our friends and watch the movie. One part that I felt could have been improved could have been the treasure hunt as that could have been a little bit tougher since everyone cracked the codes so early. Over all, it was an amazing & unforgettable night that I would love to have again. Ryka Camp night was an interesting and fun experience for me. It was exciting as this was the first time the boarders got a chance to camp out with their friends. My favorite part of the night was the hang out sessions after the movie. Some of us were playing cards, playing football and some were even stargazing. It was a chilled out scene on the field where all of us were bonding and having fun. It was nice to forget about all our exams and assignments for one night and just to hangout with friends. The part I felt that could've improved was the tents. Some of them were not in a good condition. But overall the experience was great and I had a lot of fun. Srilaya. Boarding Hot Air Ballon Experience
We had woken up at 4:00 am, the sun hadn't risen yet and the whole boarding was silent and dark . Many of us were really unhappy for the early wake-up call but at the end of the day it was worth it. There were around 12 students who had gone to the ride and some of them were also lucky to win tickets from the raffle which was held at the boarding the day before this event. Accompanied by Regin sir, we started our bus at 4:30 with everyone still sleepy and the sky was still dark and dull . The venue for the event was on the air force base, which is not that far off from the school. The ride took us around 30 minutes to reach, and as we did the ballon was getting inflated, we were just it time for the majestic sun to rise from the infinite horizon. We were also issued some boarding passes for the Balloon ride and we were really excited and eager to get in it . As the hot air balloon crew finished inflating the ballon we were able have the great view of the balloon . The balloon had the logo of the royal challengers Bangalore (a ipl cricket team) and it was giant, painted red . Overdosing on an adrenaline rush when we saw the balloon, we were desperate to ride on it but only four members were allowed to ride on it at a time and each team had around 8 minutes to stay in the sky. As the hot air balloon rose, so did the butter flies in our stomachs, but unfortunately we weren't allowed to fly too high as the Indian Air Force base was close by . But still in the height in which we flew the view was amazing. We had a memorable experience in this trip. Then by 7:00am all of us were done with our turn, and we returned to school A fun day at Agon.
